Rybak scores 16

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Urinus jumped out to an early lead and never trailed en route to a 63-51 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday.

Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Frankin) led the Green Terror (8-11, 5-9 CC) with 16 points while Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added 12.

Caroline Shimrock paced the Bears (9-10, 6-8 CC) with 20 points.

Behind six points from Shimrock, Ursinus opened up a 10-2 lead through the game's first 5:20.

Four straight points from Devin Butchko stretched the lead to 11, taking a 20-9 lead with 8:07 to play in the opening half.

A Rybak jumper and single Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) free throw closed the deficit to seven before 48 more seconds had elapsed.

A Davis layup made it a 24-17 game before Shimrock tallied five straight points to stretch the lead to 12.

A Rybak 3-pointer and two Perez free throws closed the margin to seven before two Jessica Porada free throws made it a 31-22 game at the break.

A Davis 3-pointer closed the deficit to 33-27 with 17:40 to play in the second half but the Bears scored seven of the game's next 10 points to open up an 11-point advantage with 15:46 on the clock.

Following a timeout up 42-31, Diamond Lewis hit a layup to spark a 6-0 burst with 10:47 remaining.

An Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) three-point play with 9:20 on the clock snapped a 6-minute, 13-second scoring drought.

Back-to-back Rybak 3-pointers around a Lewis driving layup closed the deficit to 55-43 with 5:54 on the clock.

A single Davis free throw and third Rybak 3-pointer in 1:58 pulled the visitors within eight with 4:41 showing.

A 6-for-6 showing from the free-throw line and an Alyssa Polimeni layup stretched the lead to 63-47 just over two minutes later to seal the victory.

The Green Terror returns to action at Dickinson on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
