HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford closed the game on a 15-2 run, turning a five-point advantage into a 61-43 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory over McDaniel on Saturday.
Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) led the Green Terror (9-12, 6-11 CC) with 16 points – 14 of which came in the first half. Stephanie Fish (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) also reached double figures with 10 points.
Dominique Meeks paced the Fords (15-6, 10-6 CC) with 17 points and nine rebounds while Hope Rainey chipped in 14 points and six boards.
After a pair of ties and three lead changes in the games' first 4:08, Rainey broke an 8-all deadlock with a 3-pointer at the 14:49 mark to give the hosts the lead for good.
Still leading by three after a Fish layup made it a 13-10 game with 12:55 remaining, Meeks hit a layup a minute later to ignite a 12-0 run that stretched the lead to 25-10 with 8:51 on the clock.
Rybak halted the stretch, hitting a 3-pointer to snap a five-minute scoring drought.
A Katherine Restrepo (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) steal-and-layup with 41 seconds remaining trimmed the deficit to 29-21 at the intermission.
Three points from Meeks stretched the lead back to 11 in the first two minutes of the second half.
Trailing 33-23, the Green Terror put together an 8-2 stretch to close the deficit to 35-31. Fish capped the three-minute period with back-to-back jumpers.
After Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) made it a 36-35 game with 12:00 to play, McDaniel would not hit a field goal the rest of the way.
Calla Miller canned a 3-pointer to respond and start a quick 7-0 spurt that pushed the lead back to double digits with 10:33 to play.
Two Wingerd free throws and four from Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) trimmed the margin to 46-41 with 7:27 to play before the Fords closed the game on the big run.
Two Fish free throws with 2:22 to play were the only Green Terror points in the span.
Wingerd finished with a team-high seven rebounds. Franklin contributed eight points.
