Perez tallies 19

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus held McDaniel to eight points through the first 15 minutes of the second half to notch a 59-51 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory on Saturday.

Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) paced the Green Terror (7-8, 4-7 CC) with 19 points while Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) added nine points – all in the first half – and Emillee Bosley (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) chipped in a season-best eight.

Lindsay Teuber scored 23 points to pace the Bears (7-8, 6-4 CC), who scored their last 19 points from the free-throw line after a Teuber three-point play with 6:05 to play. Diamond Lewis added 14, including a 10-for-10 showing from the line while Kristy George netted 10. Teuber was 11-for-13 from the stripe.

A George jumper in the lane with 11:45 to play sparked a 14-2 run to turn a tie game into a 43-31 advantage 6 minutes, 29 seconds later.

Two Stephanie Fish (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) free throws with 9:51 showing made it a 33-31 game before five points from Jackie Thomas and five from Teuber stretched the lead to 12.

Perez snapped the drought, hitting a 3-pointer from the right wing before Kristy George canned a pair of free throws with 4:54 on the clock to return the advantage to 11.

Four free throws in an eight-second span swelled the lead to its largest at 49-34 with 4:15 to play before Perez layup and five straight points from Bosley closed the deficit to 49-41 with 2:39 showing.

After two Teuber free throws made it a 52-43 game, Bosley canned a deep 3-pointer to make it a six-point game with 1:39 remaining but the visitors could get no closer.

An Amber Yacenda 3-pointer staked Ursinus to a 7-2 lead just 2:37 into the game before triples from Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Perez bookended a 7-2 counter that knotted the game at 9-all with 15:09 to play in the opening half.

Two Teuber free throws and a Alli Rosati 3-pointer re-established the five-point edge before five straight points from Rybak tied the game at 14-all.

Baskets from Rybak and Katherine Restrepo (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) capped a 9-1 stretch over nearly four minutes that gave the visitors an 18-15 edge with 8:56 remaining.

A Perez 3-pointer snapped a 5-minute, 38-second drought for McDaniel, stretching the advantage to 23-19 with 1:30 to play in the first half.

Teuber added a second-chance layup 31 seconds later to close the deficit to two at the intermission.

Keyed by a George 3-pointer 34 seconds into the second half, Ursinus scored the first seven points of the stanza, Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) converted a layup to snap an 0-for-8 start to the half.

A single Teuber free throw and two from Perez trimmed the deficit to 29-27 with 13:21 to play.

A Nikki Ostrow (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) layup off a quick pass from Nikki Piper (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) knotted the game at 29-all just 43 seconds later.

Wingerd added a career-best 14 rebounds and five assists to her six points.

Ursinus went 28-for-34 from the free-throw line while McDaniel was just 5-for-6.
