Green Terror holds Bryn Mawr to 32 points to snap seven-game skid
BRYN MAWR, Md. – Kim Acton (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) netted a career-high 15 points to lead McDaniel to a 57-32 victory over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) added 14 points for the Green Terror (1-7, 1-5 CC), who snapped its program-record seven-game losing streak to open a season.
Nicolette Parmese led the Owls (0-9, 0-6 CC) with 12 points.
Two Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) baskets and an Acton jumper staked McDaniel to a 6-0 lead in the first 2:40 of the game.
Parmese and Jackie Handy closed the deficit to 6-4 just 1:28 later before a Thompson basket and Acton 3-pointer pushed the lead to seven with 14:24 on the clock.
The Green Terror methodically extended the lead to 18 over the next 11 minutes, holding Bryn Mawr to just two field goals in the stretch for a 27-9 lead.
Two Thompson free throws with 16 seconds to play pushed the lead to 33-13 at the intermission before a 9-1 stretch on the other side of the break extended the advantage to 41-14 with 15:16 to play.
A Lindsey Darvin jumper with 5:24 to play made it a 46-26 game but the Owls would get no closer.
Thompson, Acton and Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each recorded seven rebounds for McDaniel. Ryback added six points, five assists and three steals.
The Green Terror returns to action at Susquehanna on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
