ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women's Basketball
Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2008-09 Academic Top 25
Team Honor Roll recently, and McDaniel was among the honorees.
The Green Terror, who finished the season with a 15-12 overall record (11-7 Centennial Conference) and made its eighth consecutive conference tournament, was as successful in the classroom. The squad tied for 11th in all of Division III with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.453 for the past academic year.
This was the third consecutive season McDaniel earned the honor, ranking second in 2006-07 and 24th in 2007-08.
Maryville-St. Louis earned the top honor in Division III with a 3.625 average.
The Green Terror was the one of two Centennial Conference (CC) teams honored in the Top 25 list. Muhlenberg ranked 16th (3.435) while Mid-Atlantic Region opponents York (Pa) (second, 3.624), Messiah (eighth, 3.469), York (Pa.) (eighth, 3.467) and Elizabethtown (22nd, 3.391) were among the top 25 in the nation.
On the court in 2007-08, McDaniel, under 28th-year head coach Becky Martin, advanced to the CC semifinals, where the squad fell to Muhlenberg.
The award recognizes teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade-point averages for the 2008-09 season based on nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches. The organization annually honors the top 25 teams in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College.
McDaniel opens the 2009-10 season at the Messiah Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 20-21.
