McDaniel to host ECAC first-round game

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host a 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region softball championship tournament first-round game on Wednesday in Westminster, Md.

The second-seeded Green Terror (26-15) will take on seventh-seeded Cabrini (25-17) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of another first-round game between No. 3 seed Alvernia (21-14) and No. 6 Penn State-Behrend (20-16) on Saturday. No. 4 Neumann (24-11) and No. 5 Arcadia (20-21) face off in another first-round game with the winner facing top-seeded Misericordia (24-15).

The three winners will advance to Misericordia for a double-elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The winners of the game between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds will play the Cougars in the first game on Saturday with the game pitting the winners of the games between the No. 2 and No. 7 seeds and No. 3 and No. 6 seeds to follow.

Saturday's schedule is rounded out with an elimination game and a winner's bracket game. Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m. with each successive game starting 30 minutes following the conclusion of the previous game.

The Green Terror advanced to the Centennial Conference tournament for the third straight year, dropping a 5-1 decision to eventual champion Haverford before advancing to Sunday's play with a 2-1, eight-inning win over Washington (Md.). On Sunday, Muhlenberg plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 2-1 victory.

Junior Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) leads all of Division III with 336 strikeouts entering the tournament. She has allowed just 146 hits and 79 walks in 233 1/3 innings of work this season.

Six of the regulars in the Green Terror starting lineup are hitting better than .300 this season led by Rachel Sidney's (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) .370 average. She has team bests of 50 hits, 12 doubles, six triples and 35 runs scored. She also has 13 RBIs from the leadoff spot and has drawn 18 walks. Senior Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) is hitting .367 with 47 hits, including nine doubles, a triple and a home run. She leads the team with 33 RBIs and has scored 26 runs.
