WESTMINSTER, Md. – Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll), a senior on the McDaniel softball team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Division III softball first team on Thursday.

Maring earned her first nod to the team with a 3.84 GPA as of the end of the fall semester. Maring was one of 11 players selected to the first team. The psychology major now advances to the national ballot with all of the first-team selections from the eight districts for the Academic All-America team, which will be released on May 20.

A captain, Maring enters this weekend's conference tournament with a .372 batting average on the season. She has a team-best 33 RBIs, which ranks third in the Centennial Conference. Her 45 base hits, nine doubles and 26 runs scored all rank second on the squad. She has also drawn a team-high 19 walks.

The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select the All-District team. District II consists of all of the Division III colleges and universities in Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America program presented by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
