Baumgardner notches three hits to finish sweep

WESTMINSTER, Md. – After taking game one 3-0, McDaniel strung together an eight-run fourth inning to finish a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg with a 10-1 victory in five innings on Friday.

Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) led the Green Terror (16-10, 7-3 CC) in the nightcap with a 3-for-3 game, adding two RBIs and two runs scored.

Steph Zengel produced the only run for the Bullets (14-9, 3-5 CC) with a solo home run off the foul pole in left field in the fourth inning of game two. It was the only baserunner of the nightcap allowed by Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), who fanned 10 to give her 18 over the twinbill.

In the second inning of the opener, Emily Sneeringer (Hanover, Pa./South Western) dropped a one-out single into right field before Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) walked and Olivia Kipe (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) drove a ball up the middle to load the bases.

After a fielder's choice cut down the run at the plate, Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) poked a double to center field to score Armacost and Kipe for a 2-0 lead.

Walks to Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) and Armacost around a fielder's choice loaded the bases with one out before Caitlin Justice (Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach) knocked a single into the gap for a 3-0 lead.

Brehm worked out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the top of the fifth to preserve the shutout.

Sidney and Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cardozo) each had two hits in game one.

In game two, Baumgardner beat out a two-out single through the right side in the bottom of the third before Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) drew a four-pitch walk.

Liebowitz knocked a ball off the pitcher's foot to load the bases before Stitely was drilled by a pitch to force in Baumgardner for a 1-0 lead.

A passed ball allowed Maring to slide in safe to push the lead to 2-0.

After Zengel's two-out solo shot in the top of the fourth, the Green Terror broke out the bats, sending 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame.

With one out, Justice singled to center and Sidney followed with a single right up the middle.

After Justice gave way to pinch-runner Roxana Aviles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn), a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.

Baumgardner roped her second double of the game to the wall in left-center to push the lead to 4-1.

Walks to Maring, Liebowitz and Stitely forced in Baumgardner and chased the Bullet starter with the bases loaded.

A fielder's choice at the plate gave Gettysburg its second out before Lauren Stricker (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) dropped a ball into shallow left to score Liebowitz and keep the bases loaded after the field umpire interfered with Stitely's ability to reach third base.

Kipe followed with a double to the center-field warning track for a 8-1 lead.

A Justice single to the gap in right-center plated Stricker and Kipe for a 10-1 lead.

McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
