McDaniel to host ECAC first-round game

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host a 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region softball championship tournament first-round game on Wednesday in Westminster, Md.

The third-seeded Green Terror (23-17) will take on sixth-seeded Stevenson (22-21) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of another first-round game between No. 2 seed Frostburg (29-12) and No. 7 Catholic (20-20) on Saturday. No. 4 Centenary (20-13) and No. 5 Alfred (23-17) face off in another first-round game while No. 1 Alvernia (34-9) hosts No. 8 Marywood (18-15) in the final first-round game on Wednesday.

The four winners will advance to the highest remaining seed for a double-elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The winners of the games between the No. 1 and No. 8 seeds will play the winners of the games between the No.4 and No. 5 seed in the first game on Saturday with the game pitting the winners of the games between the No. 2 and No. 7 seeds and No. 3 and No. 6 seeds to follow.

Saturday's schedule is rounded out with an elimination game and a winner's bracket game. Times will be finalized after the weekend host is determined.

The Green Terror advanced to the Centennial Conference tournament for the second straight year, dropping a 3-2 decision to Haverford and 4-0 decision to Muhlenberg.

Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) enters the ECAC tournament with 334 strikeouts on the season and a 20-10 record in the circle. She has a 1.43 earned-run average, allowing 45 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings of work. She has allowed 143 hits, 62 walks and hit 39 batters.

Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) and Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) lead the offense this season. Davis is hitting a team-best .387 with 41 hits, including six doubles and five home runs. She is tied for the team lead with 21 RBIs. Sidney has a team-best 51 hits to go with 25 runs scored and 15 RBIs.
