Mertz goes 2-for-2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Messiah held McDaniel without a run to record a doubleheader sweep in non-conference softball action on Thursday.

The Falcons (19-10) took the opener 13-0 in five innings behind a combined no-hitter from Claressa Mees and Jayme Babczak before completing the sweep 9-0 in six innings.

Laura Mertz (Gillette, N.J./Watchung Hills) led the Green Terror (15-15) with two hits in the nightcap.

With one out in the second inning, Stephanie Schell led off with a double to the right-center gap before a Sara Dietrich single and a fielding error gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

After a stolen base and two walk, Allen lifted a fly ball to center field with the bases loaded for a 2-0 advantage.

Three straight walks pushed the lead to 4-0.
