NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two members of the McDaniel softball team have been named to the all-tournament team at the 2012 Newport News NCAA Division III softball regional, announced on Monday.

Freshman pitcher Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and sophomore outfielder Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) earned spots on the 13-member team.

Brehm led the Green Terror to a third-place finish in the regional with her right arm in the circle, pitching all five games and 44 innings over four days. She struck out 60 batters and limited opponents to a .174 batting average. She allowed just 26 hits and 15 walks while hitting eight. Her 44 innings and 60 strikeouts were the most of any pitcher in any of the eight regionals.

Brehm's two biggest outings came in a 10-inning shutout of Messiah on Friday and then a 20-strikeout, 14-inning performance against Ferrum on Saturday.

Baumgardner led the McDaniel offense with a .250 batting average. She rapped out five hits and scored three runs. None of her five hits were bigger, however, than a two-out, two-strike walk-off grand slam to lift the Green Terror over No. 18 Salisbury 4-2 on Sunday.

The Green Terror finished the season with a 30-14 record, tying the program record for wins in a season.
