KISSIMMEE, Fla. – McDaniel rapped out six hits and took advantage of four errors to defeat Otterbein 4-0 at the Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
After splitting the first two games of the day, the Green Terror (6-4) capped a three-game day with a win behind 2-for-3 performances from Amy Baumgardner (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll). McDaniel opened the day with a 2-1 loss to Utica before defeating Rutgers-Camden, 5-2.
Maggie McMahon went the distance in the circle for the Cardinals (6-2), recording six strikeouts.
Baumgardner drew a walk to lead off the game before taking third on a one-out throwing error and scoring on a two-out wild pitch.
In the fifth, Stitely doubled to the gap in right-center with one out before moving to third on a Bumgarder bunt single.
One batter later, Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) grounded out to drive in Stitely for a 2-0 lead.
With one out in the sixth, Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo) reached on an error before giving way to pinch runner Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]), who scored on a Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) double.
One batter later, Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) reached on a sacrifice before another error allowed Davis to score for a 4-0 lead.
Stacey Armacost (Glenville, Pa./South Western) picked up her first collegiate win, pitching 6 1/3 innings with one strikeouts. She scattered three hits. Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) got the final two outs for her second save.
The Green Terror concludes its 10-game Florida trip against Rowan and Farmingdale State on Friday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
