Double goose egg

McDaniel sweeps Gallaudet with pair of five-inning shutouts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) and Sara Erlichman (Bedford, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) each twirled complete-game gems to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader sweep of Gallaudet in non-conference softball action on Tuesday.

Warrenfeltz allowed just one hit and fanned nine in the opener to lead the Green Terror (14-22) to an 8-0, five-inning victory. The freshman Erlichman matched her junior counterpart in two of the columns, fanning three in five innings of one-hit ball, keying a 14-0 victory.

Jessica Buckwalter broke up the no-hiiter with one out in the fifth inning for the Bison (10-24) in game one while Casey McCullough had the only Gallaudet hit in the nightcap.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led off game one with a single up the middle before taking second on a wild pitch and advancing to third on a groundout. An error allowed her to score for a 1-0 lead.

Erlichman led off the second with a double before Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) drew a walk. A groundout moved both runners up a base before they were able to score on a Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) single.

A wild pitch coupled with back-to-back singles from Sidney and Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) pushed the lead to 5-0 before Fusco scored later in the inning.

A Leigh Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) double, Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) single and Lindsey Blohm walk loaded the bases with one out in the fifth.

Sidney and Fusco plated the first two baserunners to set the final margin.

In game two, Sidney and Fusco each walked, stole baes and were able to score for a 2-0 lead after one-half inning.

Erlichman singled to lead off the second and scored on a Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) single for a 3-0 lead.

A Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) walk, hit batter, wild pitch and error pushed the lead to four in the third before the Green Terror tallied 10 over the next two innings.

Davis capped a four-run fourth, which included three straight two-out walks, with a two-run double.

In the sixth, it was a pair of errors that keyed a six-run frame.

Maring had a two-run single in the inning. Warrenfeltz also plated two runners on a ground ball.

McDaniel returns to action at Messiah on Thursday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
