Dueling to the end

McDaniel forges split with Ursinus

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Tracy Davis (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) rapped out a pair of hits with a run scored and RBI to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader split with Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.

The Bears (15-11, 8-3 CC) used a complete-game, two-hit shutout from Jennilyn Weber to take the opener 7-0 before the Green Terror (9-19, 4-10 CC) used a three-run fifth to take game two, 3-1.

With one out in the fifth, Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) dropped a single in to left field before Megan Elfert (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) followed with a two-run shot over the right-field wall for a 2-0 lead.

Two batters later, Davis went over the center-field fence for a 3-0 advantage.

A Jamie Miles double broke up an Ashley Meiseter (Vienna, Va./James Madison) no-hitter with one out in the seventh. A wild pitch and Rachael Vietheer sacrifice fly set the final margin.

In the opener, Amy Gentile drew a leadoff walk before scoring on a one-out single from Kristen Gallagher.

Gentile led off the fifth with a single before Allison Pfrommer followed with a two-run shot over the center-field fence for a 3-0 lead.

With one out, Miles singled before moving to second on a sacrifice.

Kelli Jerdan reached on an infield single, which allowed Miles and Jerdan to score for a 5-0 lead.

Cassie Brown hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the final margin.

Weber finished game one with seven strikeouts.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Southern Virginia on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m.
