Dickinson sweeps McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kyrie Budnik recorded four hits and three RBIs to lead Dickinson to a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Friday.

The Red Devils (14-11, 5-5 CC) handed the Green Terror (11-12, 2-4 CC) its seventh shutout loss of the season in game one 4-0 before taking a 4-2 decision in the nightcap.
Beth Ann Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) went 2-for-2 with a run scored in game two to lead McDaniel.
Dickinson put together four straight singles to lead off the second inning, including a two-run shot to left field from Budnik to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
An Emma Murtaugh solo home run in the top of the sixth stretched the lead to 3-0 before a Budnik triple plated Jen Welsh, who led off the seventh inning with a single, to set the final margin.
With one out in the top of the fifth of game two, Budnik belted a double and Erin King dropped a single into center field to put runners at the corners.
Murtaugh followed with a single to score Budnik before an Alesha Sisco RBI knock doubled the advantage.
A two-out error allowed pinch-runner Madison Gerrish to score and stretch the lead to 3-0.
Kelli Workmeister (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) led off the home sixth with a single.
Fusco drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs.
A Lauren Toomey (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) walk loaded the bases before Lauren Wildasin (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) drove in Workmeister.
A Samantha Staub (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) sacrifice fly pulled the hosts within 3-2 but a walk, error and Sarha Pangia groundout in the top of the seventh stretched the lead back to 4-2 and Alex Brody stranded the tying runs on base in the bottom of the inning for her sixth win of the season in the circle.
Liz Barry picked up the win for Dickinson in the opener.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
