Zamostny finishes 16th

TOWSON, Md. – Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) finished 16th overall to lead McDaniel to a fifth-place finish at the 2011 Goucher Cross Country Classic in men's cross country action on Saturday.

The Green Terror amassed 114 points. Navy won the eight-team meet with 20 points.

Zamostny finished with a time of 29:03.10 and was the second Division III runner across the line. Goucher's Joey Negreann won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:57.40 followed by all 12 of Navy's competitor. An unattached runner and NAIA Truett-McConnell's top runner were 14th and 15th, respectively.

Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) crossed 29th overall with a time of 30:47.00 and Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) followed him across in 30th (30:47.80).

Caleb Phillips (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished 32nd (31:00.60).

Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led a trio of McDaniel runners across the line in 38th with a time of 32:17.40. Graham Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) and Matthew Peterson (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) finished with times of 32:25.60 and 32:29.90, respectively.

McDaniel returns to action at the Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Dickinson on Oct. 29. The first race begins at 11 a.m.
