McDaniel men and women finish fourth at Metro Meet

BALTIMORE, Md. – Lindsay Wilson (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) finished seventh overall on the 5,000-meter women’s course to lead McDaniel to a fourth-place finish at the annual Baltimore Metro Cross Country Meet on Friday.

            The Green Terror women placed fourth in the field of 11 with 136 points but was third among Metro teams and second among Division III teams behind team champion Johns Hopkins, who won with 44 points.
            On the men’s side, McDaniel also placed fourth in the field of nine with 128 points but were third among Metro teams and second among Division III teams behind Johns Hopkins, who was second overall with 46 points. Binghamton finished with 16 points.
            Wilson crossed in a time of 18:48 to run the fastest time in program history on the Oregon Ridge course. She was the fourth Division III runner to finish – and the first who was not a Blue Jay.
            Emily Peoples (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) finished with the fourth fastest time in McDaniel’s trips to Oregon Ridge, crossing 35th overall in a time of 20:25 while Roxanne Fleischer (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) crossed three seconds later in 37th place overall for the fifth-fastest time on the course.
            Emma Nichols (Myersville, Md./Middletown) finished 48th overall in the field of 125 runners with a time of 21:01 while Jennifer Garnett (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) rounded out the top five in 54th place (21:27).
            On the men’s side, Dustin Smith (Kotzebue, Alaska/Homeschool) was the first McDaniel runner across the line, finishing in 30th place overall with a time of 16:50 – the Green Terror’s third fastest time on the 5K course.
            Kevin Bowman (Westminster, Md./Brunswick) was two seconds behind him in 31st place while Rob Kelvey (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished in 37th place overall (17:05).
            Russell Morin (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and Will Brandenburg (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) rounded out the top five in 48th (17:27) and 56th (17:57) places, respectively.
            McDaniel returns to action in its home invitational on Sept. 13.
