Emerson finishes second in shot, discus

GRANTHAM, Pa. and EMMITSBURG, Md. – Billy Emerson (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) finished second in the shot put and discus to lead McDaniel at the Messiah Invitational in men's outdoor track and field action on Friday and Saturday while others competed at the Mount Multis on Thursday and Friday.

Scoring:

  • The Green Terror finished 11th with 29 points. Messish won the 16-team invitational with 152 points.

Making a Point: The following athletes earned points at the meet:

  • Billy Emerson: shot put, finishing second with a mark of 14.68 meters; discus, finishing second with a mark of 44.25 meters.
  • Ian Armstrong (Tallyville, Del./Brandywine): discus, finishing fourth with a mark of 42.26 meters.
  • Miky Kisi (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley): 400 hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 59.96 seconds.
  • Shaun Thompson (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg): 3000 steeplechase, finishing fifth with a time of 10:51.84.

Standard Bearer: The following athletes hit Centennial Conference-qualifying marks at the meet:

  • Billy Emerson: shot put, finishing second with a mark of 14.68 meters; discus, finishing second with a mark of 44.25 meters.
  • Aaron Ferguson (Greenbelt, Md./Wheaton): 100, finishing 25th with a time of 11.78 seconds; long jump, finishing 10th with a mark of 6.07 meters.
  • Miky Kisi: 400 hurdles, finishing fifth with a time of 59.96 seconds.
  • Shaun Thompson: 3000 steeplechase, finishing fifth with a time of 10:51.84.
  • Ian Armstrong: discus, finishing fourth with a mark of 42.26 meters; shot put, finishing 17th with a mark of 11.20 meters.

A New Standard: The following athletes hit ECAC-qualifying marks at the meet:

Multi-Talented: The following athletes competed in the decathlon at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday and Friday:

  • Caleb White (Glen Burnie, Md./Baltimore City College) finished third overall with 4615 points, a total which ranks ninth all-time. Individually, he won the pole vault (3.25 meters) and was second in the 400 meters (56.24 seconds). His top point total came in the 100 with a time of 11.69 seconds (713 points).
  • Alex West (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) finished fourth overall with 4496 points, a total which ranks 10th all-time. Individually, he won the shot put (10.51 meters) and was second in the 110 hurdles (19.44 seconds) and 1500 (5:20.59). His top point total came in the 100 with a time of 12.14 (624 points).

Top 10 Worthy: The following athletes achieved a mark that ranks in the program's all-time top 10:

  • Billy Emerson now ranks fifth in the shot put (14.68 meters).
  • Caleb White now ranks ninth in the decathlon (4615 points).
  • Alex West now ranks 10th in the decathlon (4496 points).
