Dunn finishes sixth in decathlon

EMMITTSBURG, Md. – Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) led a trio of McDaniel athletes, finishing sixth in the decathlon at the Mount Multis in men's outdoor track and field action on Thursday and Friday.

Ryan McSorley (Mamora, N.J./Ocean City) and Chuck Knower (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) joined Dunn in the 10-event meet, finishing seventh and eighth respectively.

Dunn finished with 4,820 points. His best finish came in the shot put and discus, placing second among the 10 competitors who finished. Dunn threw a distance of 12.67 meters in the shot put on Thursday and a distance of 35.78 meters in the discus on Friday. The shot put earned him 647 points while the discus nabbed 464 points.

His highest point total came from a 11.79-second effort in the 100 to lead off the decathlon. That time earned him 693 points.

He was also third overall in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters to earn 569 points.

All four were Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying marks as individual events.

He also hit the standard in the long jump with a leap of 5.67 meters (516 points).

McSorley finished with 4,173 points with his best finish coming in the shot put, where he was fourth with a throw of 10.11 meters to earn 492 points.

His highest point total was a CC-qualifying time of 12.24 in the 100 (605 points). He also hit the CC standard in the long jump (5.50 meters, 481 points) and the high jump (1.67, 520).

Knower finished with 3,894 points. He was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters to earn 552 points and hit the CC mark.

He also netted 595 points in the 100, finishing in 12.29 seconds.

The Green Terror returns to action at its own home twilight meet on Wednesday.
