Kronmiller wins javelin

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Chuck Kronmiller (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) won the javelin to lead McDaniel to an eighth-place finish at the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg in men's outdoor track and field action on Saturday.

The Green Terror amassed 34 points as team. Dickinson won the 11-team invitational with 174 points.

Kromiller unfurled a personal-best throw of 53.02 meters, better his previous best by more than five meters. He was also seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.07 meters.

Woody Butler (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) was second in the javelin behind Kromiller with his throw of 50.67 meters. Butler was also second in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters, and third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.12 meters.

Combined the duo accounted for five of McDaniel's nine Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying marks in the team's final action before the championship meet in two weeks.

Louis Lachman (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) turned in a 17th-place finish in the 400 with a CC-qualifying time of 53.90 seconds. He was also 26th in the 200 with a time of 25.30 seconds.

Matt Peterson (Littleton, Colo./Lakewood) and Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) rounded out the qualifiers on the track. Peterson was 19th in the 800 with a time of 2:06.14 while Merkel followed him across in 20th with a time of 2:06.34.

Nate Bell (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) hit the CC mark in the shot put, throwing a distance of 11.40 meters.

Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) was 10th in the discus with a toss of 28.50 meters.

James Ways (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished 16th in the javelin with a hurl of 37.50 meters.

Alex Murchison (Edgewood, Md./Archbishop Curley) placed 17th in the shot put with a throw of 10.13 meters.

Jason Stein (Potomac, Md./Thomas S. Wootten) finished 37th in the mile with a time of 5:24.48.

On Thursday and Friday, Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Ron Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) participated in the decathlon at the Mount Multis hosted by Mount St. Mary's.

Nichols finished third with a personal-best score of 5,636 points while Shriver was fifth with a CC-qualifying total of 3,316 point.

Nichols tallied more than 600 points all four events on the track. He grabbed 667 points in the first event – the 100 (11.92 seconds) and closed Day One with a time of 53.58 seconds in the 400 to earn 665 points. He opened Day Two with a time of 16.87 seconds in the 110 hurdles to nab 638 points before finishing things off with 640 points in the 1,500 to grab 640 points.

Shriver's best event in his decathlon debut came in the 1,500, where he turned in a time of 4:42.34 to earn 666 points.

The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Ursinus on May 4-6.
