Dunn wins shot put

CARLISLE, Pa. – Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) won the shot put to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.

The Green Terror finished with 33 points in its final tuneup before the conference championship. Dickinson won the title at the 12-team meet with 191 points.

The shot put was the top performance of Dunn's busy day, winning with a Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying throw of 12.83 meters. He was also 11th in the pole vault (2.15 meters), 15th in the 55 hurdles (10.59 seconds) and 22nd in the 800 (2:43.52).

Dunn also led a quintet of CC qualifiers in the shot put.

C.J. Kaszuba (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) finished fourth (11.98 meters) while Brandon Creyer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) was sixth (11.55). Connor Heavner (Frederick, Md./Urbana) placed seventh (11.52) while Luis Miramontes (San Jose, Calif./San Jose) finished 10th (11.35).

Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool), Colin LaPenta (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), Jim Heilman (Lutherville, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) led the way on the track, combining to finish third in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:01.64.

Zamostny was also fifth in the 800 with a CC-qualifying time of 2:02.58.

LaPenta turned in a conference-qualifying time in the 400, finishing seventh in a time of 54.77 seconds.

Merkel was also eighth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:18.27 to move into seventh place all-time.

The Green Terror returns to action at the CC Championship hosted by Haverford on Mar. 1-2.
