LEWISBURG, Pa. – Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) won the 3,000 to lead McDaniel at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell in season-opening men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.
Merkel led a trio of Green Terror runners in the event, crossing with a time of 9:22.84.
Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River) recorded one of two Centennial Conference-qualifying marks, denting the all-time top 10 in the shot put with a throw of 12.91 meters (42-4 ¼), which ranks ninth all-time.
Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) had the other conference qualifier, finishing 12th in the 800 with a time of 2:02.59.
Dunn was also 34th in the 60. His time of 7.66 seconds missed the qualifying standard by 0.02 seconds. Loi Nguyen (Crofton, Md./South River) finished 38th in the same event (7.76).
Josh Miller rounded out the light group of competitors, finishing 13th in the 500 with a time of 1:26.06.
McDaniel returns to action at the Hagerstown Invitational on Saturday.
