Zamostny wins 1K

CARLISLE, Pa. – Jake Zamostny (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) won the 1,000 meters to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the 2011 Dickinson Holiday Meet in men's indoor track and field action on Saturday.

The Green Terror amassed 49.5 points in its first full-team action on the season. The Red Devils won their own 11-team invitational with 167 points.

Zamostny finished the race with a time of 2:40.94, which ranks fourth on the program's all-time list.

Jerome Hill (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) improved his place on the all-time 55 performer list with a time of 6.75 seconds to place fourth overall. His time is eighth all-time. Hill was also third in the 200 with a time of 23.91 and was part of the 4x200-meter relay, which finished second in a time of 1:37.30.

Trevor Crest (Baltimore, Md./Episcopal), Brad Heavner (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Arthur Williams joined Hill on the relay.

Jordan Birden, Zach Schreiber (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), Chuck Kronmiller (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) and Joel Kleinberg (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) comprised a B-relay in the same event, which was eighth with a time of 1:43.26.

Crest added a sixth-place showing in the 200 with a time of 24.35 seconds while Heavner was 13th in a time of 24.88. Both were among 20 Centennial Conference (CC)-qualifying standards hit on the day.

Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) finished eighth with CC marks in both the 55 hurdles (8.60 seconds) and pole vault (3.84 meters). In addition to being a personal best, his pole vault height ranks third on the Green Terror all-time list.

Peter Merkel (Ellicott City, Md./Homeschool) was fifth in the 1,000 (2:56.92) and sixth in the mile (4:51.44).

Caleb Phillips (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) crossed fifth in the 600 with a time of 1:32.21 while Calvin Ball (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was eighth in the 1,000 with a time of 3:17.80.

Birden rounded out scorers in the meet with a sixth-place showing in the high jump, clearing a CC-qualifying height of 1.72 meters, which also places him fourth on the program's all-time performer list.

Williams (18th, 6.98), Jonathan Snack (22nd, 7.03), Crest (23rd, 7.03), Birden (27th, 7.07) and Kyle Dunn (Crofton, Md./South River (31st, 7.12) all hit the CC mark in the 55.

Schreiber (13th, 5.59), Birden (15th, 5.44), Williams (18th, 5.37), Nichols (19th, 5.29) and Dunn (21st, 5.28) also hit qualifying marks in the long jump.

Nate Bell (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), who finished 11th with a throw of 11.24 meters, joined Kronmiller (15th, 10.92) and Nichols (16th, 10.76) as qualifiers in the shot put.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Bucknell Mini-meet on Jan. 7.
