WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won four of the six singles matches to open the spring with a 5-4 win over Frostburg in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday.
Luke Shuck (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) led the Green Terror (3-1) with a pair of victories. He teamed with Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) for an 8-4 win at first doubles before tallying a three-set win at second singles. Shuck took the opening set 6-3 before Nolan Jones won a tiebreaker in the second set for a 7-6 victory, forcing a supertiebreak third set. Shuck prevailed 10-2 for one of three three-set wins.
Derek Thompson led the Bobcats (2-3) with two wins, partnering with Joey Cox for an 8-1 win at third doubles and winning 6-4, 6-3 at sixth singles.
Aaron Beckner and Nate Farlow staked Frostburg to a 2-1 lead after doubles, winning No. 2 by an 8-3 margin.
Wawrzynski dropped the opening set of No. 4 singles 6-3 before tallying a 6-4 win to force the deciding set, where he won, 10-7.
Myers also dropped the first set at No. 5 singles 6-2 before forcing a third set with a 6-4 win. He took the supertiebreaker, 10-4.
Quinn Burker (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded the only Green Terror straight-set singles win, taking No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-4.
McDaniel returns to action against St. Ambrose in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday, Mar. 13.
