FREDERICK, Md. – McDaniel won four singles matches to top Hood 5-4 in the men's tennis opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Will Giles (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) helped the Green Terror (1-0) to victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win at second singles.
Jorden Hahn led the Blazers (0-1) with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at third singles.
Hood won first and third doubles by identical 8-2 scores to take a 2-1 lead entering singles.
Tate Myers (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) won by retirement in the second set at fourth singles.
Fifth and sixth singles went to a deciding set with each team prevailing in one.
Jimmy Wawrzynski took rallied at No. 5 after dropping the first set 6-2 to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-2 and clinch the match.
Matthew Betz prevailed 7-5 in the third set at No. 6. He took the opening set 6-1 before Aiden Finnerty (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) forced the deciding set with a 6-4 win.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Catholic on Saturday. Match time is 12 p.m.
