Washington downs McDaniel 8-1 in conference opener

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Adam Cranford won twice to lead Washington (Md.) to an 8-1 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's tennis opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Shoremen (3-2, 1-0 CC) took two of the three doubles matches between sweeping singles play in straight sets.

Chad Palman (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) and Ben Faber (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) won the lone point for the Green Terror (3-3, 0-1 CC), taking No. 1 doubles by an 8-2 margin.

Cranford teamed with Marc Cywinski for an 8-2 victory at third doubles before winning at first singles, 6-0, 6-1.

John Menzione won at 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles while Kyle Lisco and Joel Novick recording matching 6-0, 6-1 victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

Kevin Papen and Aaron Ellison rounded out double winners for Washington. The duo partnered for an 8-2 win at second doubles before winning at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3) and No. 3 (6-2, 6-2) singles, respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at Wesley on Sunday. Match time is 12 p.m.
