McCracken tallies four in opener

WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 25:19 en route to a 10-1 win over Southern Vermont in the men's soccer season opener for both teams on Friday.

Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) tallied four markers - two in each half - for the Green Terror (1-0), who finished with a 26-4 advantage in shots.

Ruben Olivares scored for the Mountaineers (0-1), putting back a rebound in the 33rd minute.

McCracken finished twice in the game's first 12:52, scoring off a Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) feed in the third minute and a Luis Calderon (Silver Spring, Md./Bullis) assist in the 13th minute.

Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and Alec Weaver (Toano, Va./Ephrata) stretched the lead to 4-0 before 26 minutes had elapsed.

Two McCracken tallies keyed a 3-0 run in 1 minute, 59 seconds to stretch the lead to 7-1 at the 56:23 mark.

Bertrand Chepnagang (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) capped the burst.

Weaver knocked home a second tally in the 64th minute before Pete Wenger (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Braedon Tock (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) each tallied their first collegiate goals in the final 11 minutes.

McDaniel returns to action at home against La Roche on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
