WESTMINSTER, Md. – A pair of goals in a span of 35 seconds propelled McDaniel to 3-0 victory over Catholic in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday.
Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) posted his first individual shutout of the season for the Green Terror (5-7-1), making six saves in net.
Cam McGrory had six saves of his own for the Cardinals (8-5), who finished with a 19-14 advantage in shots that included a 15-6 margin in the second half.
Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) opened the scoring, drawing the keeper out before blasting one in the backside of goal directly off an Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) throw-in at the 24:19 mark.
On a restart after a yellow card, McDaniel put the ball into the box where Mike McClain (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) collected it off the Cardinal defense and blasted a ball into the upper part of the net just 35 seconds after McCracken's team-leading 11th. For McClain, it was his fourth marker in the last six games.
Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished a Ruben Vaca (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) cross from the right wing to set the final margin in the 72nd minute.
The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
