McClain coverts in second half

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall found the back of the net three times in the first half to key a 5-1 Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Mike McClain (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) scored for the third time in the last five games for the Green Terror (4-7-1, 1-4 CC), tallying 3:01 into the second half.

Jared Bomba led the Diplomats (9-3, 2-3 CC) with two goals.

In a game that featured five yellow cards and 22 combined fouls, Franklin & Marshall converted a pair of penalty kicks among its five markers.

Ryan O'Connell opened the scoring, deflecting the ball into the net at the 19:01 mark.

Mike Irving found Chris Scott approximately eight minutes later to double the lead.

Bomba converted after a handball in the box with just 43 seconds left in the first half.

Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) crossed a ball that McClain placed in the lower-right corner to pull the hosts within 3-1.

Ben Beaver converted a second penalty kick in the 76th minute before Vince Perry crossed a ball that Bomba finished with fewer than four minutes to play.

The Diplomats finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots while McDaniel held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Catholic on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
