McCracken nets first-half tally
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel tallied a first-half goal and Frostburg responded in the second half but that was all the scoring, leading to a 1-all double-overtime draw in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday.
Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) scored for the Green Terror (3-6-2), bicycling home a first-half goal.
In the second half, Ryan Russell evened the game for the Bobcats (6-1-3), who finished the 110-minute contest with a 25-12 advantage in shots.
Off a restart just over midfield, Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) bent a ball through the box near the backside post. Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) flicked the ball off his head to McCracken, who wound up and wheeled the ball over his head and then over a frozen goalkeeper into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead with 35:13 elapsed.
Off a restart at the top-left corner of the box in the 73rd minute, Frostburg faked a short touch pass before Russell blasted a shot just under the crossbar to knot the game.
Both teams had no fewer than one quality look in the waning minutes of regulation and both overtimes but most of the shots sailed wide or high.
Abiye Jack made four saves for the Bobcats while Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) had three stops for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
