McDaniel tallies twice late for win
Green Terror records 2-0 win at Washington
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Matthew Gillen (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 72nd minute, helping lift McDaniel to a 2-0 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at Washington (Md.) on Saturday.
Barnabas Furth (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) added the other goal for the Green Terror (5-6, 2-2 CC), who recorded its third consecutive shutout victory in Chestertown.
Chris Phipps made seven saves for the Shoremen (3-6-1, 0-3-1 CC) while Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) had five stops at the other end.
Paul Jaworski (Highlight, Md./River Hill) played a ball in to Gill, who found the back of the net for the first goal of the game at the 71:16 mark.
Gillen added an assist nearly nine minutes later, flipping the ball to Timothy Wineke (Resiterstown, Md./North Carroll). Wineke passed ahead to Furth who tallied the first goal of his collegiate career to set the final margin.
Washington finished with a slim 17-16 edge in shots while McDaniel had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
