McDaniel makes lone goal stand
Wineke scores early, defense posts first shutout of year
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Caroll) scored in the 13th minute and the defenses took over from there in a 1-0 McDaniel victory over Marymount in the first round of the 2009 Mary Washington Soccer Classic in men's soccer action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-1) finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots while the Saints (0-2) held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Off a corner kick, Wineke netted his third goal of the season at the 12:26 mark to extend his scoring streak to three consecutive games.
Benjamin Knight (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxbourough Regional) made four saves in the shutout to improve to 1-1 on the season.
McDaniel returns to action in the second day of the Classic against the host Eagles. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
