WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 5-0 first-quarter lead before holding on for a 12-10 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Zack Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) led the Green Terror (5-8, 0-5 CC) with a 16-for-22 day on faceoffs, grabbing nine ground balls in the process.
Kevin Mollihan led the 17th-ranked Diplomats (9-2, 4-0 CC) to their ninth straight win with three goals and an assist.
Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) had a hat trick of his own for McDaniel.
A Sean Rogers solo run – his first of three goals on the game – staked Franklin & Marshall to a 1-0 lead just 1:39 into the game and sparked the big first quarter.
Mollihan had two of his goals in the period and also added an assist on a Teddy Bossidy marker with 1:46 to play in the quarter.
Marshall broke up the run, finishing a Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) feed just five seconds into a man-up opportunity to make it a 5-1 game with 13:48 showing.
Rogers responded just over a minute later before the Green Terror ran off four straight to end the half and close to within 6-5.
Marshall capped the half, finishing a long pass from Dylan Chaikin (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) with just 0.9 seconds showing on the second-quarter clock.
Rogers and Christopher Casey scored 15 seconds apart to stretch the lead to 8-3 with 12:33 to play in the third quarter before the teams traded four goals in the final 1:54 of the period to make it 10-7 entering the final quarter.
Mollihan and Sam Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) traded goals in the final 2:00 to set the final score.
Will Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) led the defense with six caused turnovers and four ground balls.
McDaniel finished with a 35-27 advantage in shots but Scott Hatch made 13 saves for the Diplomats.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
