Kroppe records 11 ground balls, seven caused turnovers

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) jumped out to a 7-0 halftime team en route to an 11-5 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Will Kroppe (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) led the Green Terror (5-6, 0-3 CC) with a program-record seven caused turnovers while also matching his career high with 11 ground balls.

Kevin Trapp led the Shoremen (6-4, 1-2 CC) with three goals.

Trapp staked the hosts to a 1-0 lead, finishing a pass from Tanner Barbieri just 1:46 into the game.

Cooper Sloan finished a solo run 1:22 later to double the advantage.

Tyler Powers made it 3-0 with 7:56 to play in the opening quarter off the second Barbieri helper.

Nick Boyles started a four-goal second quarter with 9:20 showing that Peter Jacobs capped with just 1:38 to play in the opening half.

Carson Marshall (Brookeville, Md./Glenelg) got McDaniel on the board with 9:18 showing in third quarter before Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) made it a 7-2 game going to the fourth quarter, finding the back of the net with 15 ticks remaining.

Quinn Lykens (Baltimore, Md./Towson) converted a man-up opportunity just 53 seconds into the final period before Barbieri and Frankie Kratovil (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) traded markers to make it an 8-4 game with 8:00 to play.

Trapp and Jacobs stretched the lead to 10-4 with 4:32 to play before Dylan Chaikin (Gaithersburg, Md./Quine Orchard) and Trey Ritter traded markers in the final 3:12 to set the final margin.

McDaniel finished with a 44-30 advantage in shots, including 24-12 after halftime but Ben Flood made 22 saves in goal for Washington.

The Green Terror returns to action at No. 17 Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
