Gillen goes 12-for-17 on faceoffs
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford scored the final four goals of the game to secure a 9-4 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Four different players scored goals for the Green Terror (3-8, 0-3 CC), including freshman Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) to put his team on top 3-2 early in the second half.
Jake Maldonado and Nick Schoen led the Fords (4-5, 1-2 CC) with three goals apiece.
Trailing 3-2 after Monzo's goal eight seconds into the third quarter, Maldonado hit the back of the net with 12:08 showing to knot the game at 3-all.
Back-to-back Schoen tallies in the final 5:22 of the quarter gave the hosts a 5-3 advantage entering the final quarter.
Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made it a 5-4 game 1:31 into the final period.
Maldonado converted a man-up goal with 11:54 to play to push the lead back to two before goals from Christian Clay and Schoen 29 seconds apart made it an 8-4 game with 8:00 showing.
Dan LoSardo set the final margin, converting a man-up attempt with 4:49 to play.
Henry Millson finished a solo run 1:19 into the game to stake the hosts to an early 1-0 lead before Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) evened the game with 9:36 showing.
Maldonado put Haverford back on top after one quarter before Pat Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) netted the only second-quarter goal with 2:58 on the clock.
Ryan Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) won 12 of the 17 faceoff attempts, picking up five ground balls as part of a 26-20 advantage for the Green Terror.
The Fords had a 37-22 advantage in shots.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
