Green Terror defeats New England College, 10-4
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Nick DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) recorded a hat trick to lead McDaniel to a 10-4 victory over New England College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Four different players tallied a goal for the Pilgrims (0-3), who tallied 10 of their 17 shots in the fourth quarter in an attempt to overcome an 8-2 deficit entering the final quarter.
Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and William Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) added two goals apiece for the Green Terror (2-3), who got notched 26 shots in the game. Preston added three assists while Clary recorded a pair.
Preston found TJ Willoughby (Sykesville, Md./Century) with 10:14 to play in the opening period to start a five-goal stretch to open the game.
DiBernardo finished the second of Preston's helpers with 6:51 showing before Preston notched his third helper, finding Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Crnaford) with 3:42 on the clock.
Clary and DiBernardo extended the lead to 5-0 before three minutes had elapsed in the second period before Matt Vozzolo broke up the shutout with 5:49 to play in the opening half.
DiBernardo made it 6-1 at the break before Sam Freihofner trimmed the deficit to four just 3:02 into the third quarter.
Preston and Michael Young (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) pushed the lead to 8-2 at the end of the third.
A Matt Carey man-up tally 1:32 into the fourth trimmed the deficit to 8-3 before Preston and Carey tallied 58 seconds apart to make it a 10-3 game.
Brian Gillis set the final margin, tallying off a Phil DiFlaco feed with 1:23 to play.
McDaniel returns to action at Colorado College on Tuesday. Game time is 3 p.m. MDT.
