McDaniel gets offensive in opener

Green Terror notches 20-3 win over Moravian

WESTMINSTER, Md. - DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) was one of three McDaniel players to notch four goals, pacing the squad in a 20-3 victory over Moravian in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and TJ Willoughby (Sykesville, Md./Century) also added four goals apiece to help the Green Terror (1-0) open the season on a high note.

Robert Devine notched two of the three goals for the Greyhounds (0-2), who were outshot 51-15 in the contest.

Rickels staked McDaniel to a 2-0 lead in the game's first three minutes before Preston stretched the lead to 3-0 at the 11:29 mark.

Rickels completed his hat trick with 8:54 to play in the first quarter before Jacob Harris got Moravian on the scoreboard midway through the stanza.

Michael Young (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) made it a 5-1 first period before Rickels and Preston each tallied once to key a five-goal spurt in the second quarter.

Devine made it a 10-2 game with 1:16 to play in the first half before Willoughby extended the lead to 11-2 at the break with a man-down goal.

Devine made it 11-3 just 11 seconds into the third period before the Green Terror tallied the game's final nine goals.

Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./Potomac School) went 16 of 24 on faceoffs for McDaniel.

Rickels added six ground balls for the Green Terror, who finished with a 57-28 advantage in the category.

McDaniel returns to action at No. 1 Salisbury on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
