DESTIN, Fla. – Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) posted a round of 78 to lead McDaniel at the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III men's golf championship at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort on Tuesday.
The Green Terror, in the first group to tee off at the championship, posted a round of 327 to finish the day in 31st place, +43 as a team. The field of 41 was split among the two championship courses for the opening two rounds.
McDaniel was among the group to draw the par-71, 6,854-yard Raven course. The other half of the field played the par-72, 6,636-yard Links course. Methodist has the best score relative to par after round one, posting a two-over par 290. Transylvania posted a round of 288, four-over par. Guilford is currently in 15th place after a round of 307 (+19).
Tanen's round of 78 ranks 98th individually.

Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) carded a round of 88 to place 188th after the first 18 holes.
