Mewhirter goes low in first round

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) fired a career-low round of 69 on Sunday to lead McDaniel to a seventh-place finish at the Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny in men's golf action on Sunday and Monday.

The Green Terror carded a round of 300 on Sunday to sit in fifth place before firing a score of 311 on Monday to finish seventh in the 15-team field with a score of 611. Point Park won the event with a 597, edging the host Gators by a single stroke.

Mewhirter, who held the individual lead after the first 18 holes, finished with a two-day score of 148 to finish tied for sixth place overall.

James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) shot McDaniel's best round on Monday, carding a 73 to match Mewhirter with a 148 after shooting a 75 on Sunday.

Steven Tanen (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) finished 41st overall with a score of 157, carding a 77 on Sunday and an 80 on Monday.

Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) finished tied for 44th with a score of 158 after posting matching round of 79.

Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) was tied for 52nd with a 36-hole score of 160, posting an opening-round score of 79 and registering a score of 81 in the second round.

The Green Terror returns to action at the Susquehanna Fall Invitational with the B-Team on Saturday while the A-Team is off until the Rehoboth Beach Invitational hosted by Penn on Monday, Sept. 24.
