Bowman wins first tourney

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) fired a two-day score of 145 to notch his first collegiate invitational title and lead McDaniel to a team victory at its own Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic at The Bridges Golf Club in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.

The Green Terror combined to fire a total of 603 over the two-day, 36-hole event that included a season-best round of 295 in Saturday's first round to stake the squad to a 14-stroke lead on the field.

Washington & Jefferson posted a two-day score of 614 to finish second in the 14-team field that included some of the top teams in the region.

Playing in near ideal conditions over the entire weekend, five players carded a round under par on the 6,713-yard, par-72 course. Bowman posted the low round of Saturday with the only red number, scoring a 71 before posting a round of 74 on Sunday.

Logan Connaughton (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional), Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) also turned in two rounds in the 70s.

Connaughton and Mewhirter finished tied for sixth with totals of 152. Connaughton shot a 75 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday while Mewhirter carded a 73 in the first round and a 78 in the second round.

Johnson posted a 76 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday to finish with a 155 and tied for 18th.

Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) finished tied for 43rd with a 163, including a 78 on Sunday.

The Green Terror's B-team finished 8th overall with a 631, including a 311 on Sunday.

James Lillie (Garrett Park, Md./Walter Johnson) matched Johnson with a score of 155, posting a 79 on Saturday and 76 on Sunday.

Rich DeMarco (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney) and Dominic Seelig (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) also finished in the top 25. DeMarco was 20th with a 156, carding a 77 in the first round and 79 in the second round. Seelig finished one stroke higher tied for 21st, posting a 78 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.

Sam Lee (Rockville, Md./Rockville) was tied for 52nd with a 165 (88-77) while Kevin Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was 63rd with a 172 (86-86).

The Green Terror opens the spring schedule with its own Myrtle Beach Shootout at Barefoot Golf Resort on Mar. 13.
