McDaniel opens fall with 12th-place finish at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) posted a two-round score of 153 to lead McDaniel to a 12th-place finish at the Navy Fall Classic in men's golf action on Saturday and Sunday.

The Green Terror posted a combined score of 625, firing 309 in Saturday's opening round and 316 in the second round on Sunday at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course.

Delaware won the 12-team tournament on tiebreaker with a 570 (286-284). Lafayette also posted a 570 (283-287).

Playing a wet course, McDaniel – which also finished last at the Division I tournament en route to its Centennial Conference championship last year – posted five of its 10 rounds in the 70s in the season-opening tournament.

Johnson, Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Kyle Chittim (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) all carded rounds of 76 in the first round.

Johnson followed that up with a round of 77 to finish tied for 43rd. Bowman posted a round of 78 to finish tied for 46th with a two-day score of 154.

Chittim registered a round of 81 on Sunday to place tied for 52nd with his score of 157.

Freshman Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) debuted with a combined score of 161, posting rounds of 81 and 80, respectively, to finish 57th.

Logan Connaughton (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) finished tied for 63rd with a two-day score of 164 (82-82).

The Green Terror returns to action at the Guy W. Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny next Sunday and Monday.
