WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel used a 12-2 run to open up a double-digit lead with 4:25 to play and top Washington (Md.) 72-53 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Thursday.
Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Green Terror (5-17, 2-13 CC) with 21 points, pacing three players in double figures. Isaac Ray (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) added 14 points while Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) chipped in 11 points.
Austin Allen and Josh Porteous led the Shoremen (6-16, 3-12 CC) with 11 points each.
Trailing 35-26 at halftime, Washington chipped away at the deficit and closed to within 42-40 before Ray drained a 3-pointer in the corner with 11:11 showing to stretch the lead back to five.
Clinging to a 51-48 advantage, Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) converted a layup before a McWilliams steal-and-layup stretched the lead to 55-48 with 6:48 to play.
A Jared Houck (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and another triple from Kwaitkowski pushed capped the game-clinching 12-2 run.
Tas Dixon hit two free throws with 3:23 on the clock but that's as close as Washington would get.
Washington scored the game's first seven point before McDaniel responded with a 12-5 counter to tie the game with 14:19 showing.
McWilliam, who scored 13 of his team's first 17 points, hit a 3-pointer to make it a 17-15 game.
Trailing 21-19 on a Porteous layup, Ray drained a triple with 6:24 remaining to spark a 16-5 run to close the half.
Cannon added seven rebounds and three assists while Ray had six board. Kwiatkowski and Houck finished with nine points each.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
