HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to edge McDaniel 59-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Thursday.

Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) paced four players in double figures for the Green Terror (2-11, 0-7 CC) with 13 points. Stephen Lang (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) established a career-best with 11 points while Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Isaac Ray (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) chipped in 10 each.

Jesse Turkson led the Fords (6-8, 2-5 CC) with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Trailing 32-21 at halftime, Turkson converted a putback attempt on Haverford's first possession to spark a 19-4 run over the first 8:30 of the second half.

After Cannon and Turkson traded jumpers in the paint, a Benjamin Young (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) tip-in and Cannon layup tied the game at 42-all with 8:19 to play.

Jonathan Lang, however, hit his third 3-pointer of the second half to put the hosts back in front for good.

The lead swelled as large as six on two Kahill Garnes free throws with 43.2 seconds left.

Stephen Lang came down and drained a triple from the right wing with 31.3 seconds left to reach double figures for the first time in his young career and draw the Green Terror within three.

Garnes hit the first of two free throws with 15.6 seconds left before Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) hit a 3-pointer of his own to make it a one-point game with 5.5 ticks left.

Garnes once again just hit the first of two free throws but McDaniel's runner in the lane to attempt to force overtime bounced off the iron as time expired.

Four points from Turkson staked Haverford to a 4-0 lead before Ray canned back-to-back treys for a 6-4 lead just three minutes into the game.

Trailing 11-6 after five straight points from Joe Scibelli, Young hit a layup to spark a 7-1 burst that gave McDaniel a one-point lead with 11:13 showing.

Triples from McWilliams and Lang on consecutive possessions turned a three-point deficit into a 19-16 lead before Cannon hit a layup with 88 seconds left that ultimately made it a 32-21 game at the intermission.

Young led the way on the glass with seven rebounds while Cannon had four assists.

The Green Terror returns to action against Muhlenberg at The Palestra on Sunday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
