CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson used a 24-4 run to turn a one-point deficit into a 19-point lead with 5:28 to play, ultimately defeating McDaniel 74-56 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Thursday.

Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Green Terror (1-4, 0-2 CC) with 15 points while DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Justus Melton led the Red Devils (4-1, 2-0 CC), who were receiving votes in the latest poll, with 24 points – 16 of which came in the decisive second half – to go with nine rebounds.

Trailing 34-31 at halftime, McWilliams canned a triple on the opening possession of the second half to tie the game for the ninth time.

Dickinson rebuilt a three-point lead before a Benjamin Young (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) layup and Harper jumper gave McDaniel a 39-38 lead with 15:15 to play.

A Sam Lorenzo putback with 13:43 on the clock started the 8-minute, 15-second span that blew open the game. Melton had 14 of his points during the run.

After a back-and-forth first seven minutes, Elijah Wright and Mike Hinckley drained 3-pointers on consecutive possessions before Lorenzo added a layup to give Dickinson a 20-14 lead midway through the half.

A Harper 3-pointer and Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) layup closed the deficit to one.

A Harper layup and two from McWilliams – all off three of Austin Cannon's (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) five assists – gave the Green Terror a 25-23 lead with 5:46 remaining.

The teams traded points until a Wright 3-pointer and Melton rebound-and-layup stretched the lead to five in the final minute. McWilliams hit two free throws with 34 ticks remaining for the halftime margin.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
