HAVERFORD, Pa. – McDaniel put together a 9-0 run early in the second half to open up a 12-point lead and defeat Haverford 72-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) was one of four starters in double figures for the Green Terror (10-13, 6-10 CC), recording his first collegiate double-double with 16 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) made it two players with double-doubles, contributing a team-high 17 points to go with 10 rebounds. Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 points each.

Matt Sherman paced the Fords (3-20, 2-14 CC) with 22 points.

Kyle Goldfarb opened the scoring for Haverford but that would be the hosts only lead of the game. Yrizarry hit a layup to tie the game and added five of McDaniel's first seven points to stake his team to a 7-2 advantage at the 15:42 mark.

The remainder of the first half was back-and-forth until Goldfarb tied the game at 25-all with 4:00 to play in the stanza. A Cannon three-point play put the Green Terror back on top.

After Sherman trimmed the deficit to 29-28 with a 3-pointer, Perugino beat the first-half horn with a triple of his own to push the lead back to four at the break.

Haverford closed to within 42-39 on a Sherman 3-pointer with 15:03 showing but a McWilliams layup sparked the game-clinching 9-0 run.

Perugino contributed five points during the 2-minute, 6-second stretch.

The Fords twice drew within nine but McDaniel extended the lead as large as 14 with 7:12 to play en route to snapping five-game skid.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
