NEW YORK, N.Y. – City College of New York scored 10 of the first 12 points in overtime to defeat McDaniel 75-67 in non-conference men's basketball action on Friday.
Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror (4-6) with a season-best 21 points.
Khalil Hamer paced the Beavers (4-6) with 18 points while Robbie Dionisio added a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
After Mark Richards and Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) traded baskets in the first minute of overtime, Salvatore Palazzoli keyed an 8-0 run with two layups to give CCNY a 72-64 lead with just 43 ticks remaining.
Tied at 3-all, a Dionisio free throw and layup sparked a 10-4 burst that gave the hosts a 13-7 advantage with 15:10 to play in the opening half.
A Cannon layup and Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) 3-poitner closed the deficit to 13-12 just three minutes later.
Clinging to a 33-32 edge after a Cannon layup with 4:54 remaining, Palazzolo hit a jumper to spark a 7-0 close the first half.
Six straight points to start the second half stretched the lead as large as 14 with 16:48 showing.
Cannon snapped the 8-minute, 17-second scoring drought with a jumper.
Trailing 60-53 with 4:07 to play in regulation, a Cannon layup and McWilliams free throw trimmed the margin to 60-56 before the two triples in the final minute forced overtime.
McWilliams finished with 15 points while Perugino added 14, hitting four 3-pointers. Yrizarry led the way on the glass with 11 boards. Cannon also dished out five assists while McWilliams had four helpers.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Emmanuel on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
