WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel opened up a 47-34 halftime lead en route to a 95-73 victory over Penn State-York in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday.
Isaac Ray (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) led the Green Terror (2-0) with a career-high 21 points, shooting 8 for 16 from the floor. Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) added 18 points on 9 of 11 shooting. In total, six players reached double figures for the hosts.
Trent Thomas paced the Lions (0-2) with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Tied at 11-all after a back-and-forth first six minutes, Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) hit a 3-pointer to spark an 11-0 that put McDaniel in front for good.
Penn State York clawed to within 30-26 on a Matt Achille layup with 4:29 to play in the first half but DJ Harper (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) hit a layup to push the lead back to six.
Two Lucas Jewell free throws once again made it a four-point game but Harper hit another layup on the ensuing Green Terror possession.
Two Yrizarry layups around a Jewel layup sparked a 13-6 final 3:19 of the first half.
The lead was never closer than 15 in the second half and swelled as large as 76-43 on a Harper second-chance jumper with 8:45 to play.
McWilliams finished with 16 points while Harper had a career-best 15 off the bench, hitting all seven of his field-goal attempts. Perugino and Austin Cannon (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) added 10 points each.
The Green Terror opens the Centennial Conference schedule at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
