WESTMINSTER, Md. – An 18-7 first-half run gave McDaniel its first double-digit lead en route to an 82-61 victory over Penn State-Brandywine in non-conference men's basketball action on Monday.

Tyler Rudd (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) led a balanced attack for the Green Terror (8-5), netting 16 points. He also added nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Four other players reached double figures for the hosts. Nic Martin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) and Tim Jarosinski (Towson, Md./Towson) added 13 points each off the bench. Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) added 12 while Duane Echols (Jessup, Md./Hammond) had 10 – all in the decisive first half.

Dan Robinson led the Lions (7-5) with 15 points and six rebounds while Frank McCusker added 10 points and four boards.

Trailing 6-5 with 15:44 to play in the first half after back-to-back baskets from Learon Pray and Robinson, Echols took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast to put McDaniel in front for good 49 seconds later.

Perry added a 3-pointer to push the lead to four before Pray responded with a layup.

A Rudd 3-pointer and Martin layup stretched the advantage to 15-8 with 12:28 on the clock.

Up 18-13, Jarosinski converted a three-point play for the first points of his career-high night and Cameron Royster (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added a layup to give the squad a 10-point lead with 10:29 to play.

Back-to-back buckets from Robinson and Rasheed Wilkins closed the deficit to 24-19 but Martin responded with a 3-pointer before the two teams went nearly three minutes without a basket.

A Rudd second-chance jumper with 5:36 to play stretched the lead to 10 en route to a 43-32 halftime advantage.

Wilkins immediately cut the deficit to eight after the break but six straight Green Terror points pushed the lead to 14 just 2:03 into the second half.

After Robinson made it a 57-44 game with 14:29 to play, Merlo hit a layup to spark an 8-0 burst that pushed the advantage to 21 just 2 minutes, 13 seconds later, sealing the win.

Merlo finished with eight points. Perry added five assists and three steals while Martin had three helpers and two swipes. Jack Rauchut (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) recorded seven rebounds.

McDaniel returns to action at Haverford on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.
