WESTMINSTER, Md. – Dickinson put together a 15-1 second-half run to secure a 69-55 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.
Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) led the Green Terror (7-13, 4-9 CC) with 14 points while Evan Pupelis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) also reached double figures with 11 points. Gerry Wixted paced the Red Devils (11-9, 8-5 CC), recording a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. All five Dickinson starters reached double figures in the scoring column. Thomas McInerney and Adam Honig matched Wixted with 13 while Chris Barsanti netted 12 and Tucker Landy scored 10 to go with eight boards.
After a see-saw first four minutes that saw two ties and two lead changes, Wixted converted a three-point play to spark a 7-0 burst that turned a 7-6 deficit into a 13-6 lead with 14:53 on the clock.
A McInerney three-point play stretched the lead to seven at 20-13 before a second Butler slam and single Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) free throw trimmed the deficit to four with 8:49 on the clock.
After McInerney and Cullen Murray-Kemp (Trappe, Md./Easton) exchanged baskets, Honig canned a 3-pointer with 7:25 on the clock that sparked a 15-3 stretch over the next 6:01 that pushed the lead to 37-21 en route to a 37-24 halftime edge.
The Green Terror scored 12 of the first 18 points in the second half to slice the deficit to 43-38 with 11:34 showing.
Perry had six points during the run, including a steal-and-dunk and then a jumper to account for the final four points of the stretch.
However, two McInerney free throws nearly a minute later sparked the game-clinching 15-1 run over the next five minutes.
Barsanti talled five during the run while Landy and McInerney had four each.
Trailing 62-47, Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Doug Macrone (Hatboro, Pa./Hun School of Princeton) each canned 3-pointers to key an 8-1 burst that closed the deficit to eight with 1:16 showing.
The Red Devils converted four of their six free throw attempts and Barsanti hit a fast-break layup to seal the victory.
Perry finished with nine points while Merlo scored six.
