WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored twice in a 1-minute, 28-second span to take a 4-2 lead en route to a 4-3 victory over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Tuesday.
Gabrielle Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored four goals to lead the Green Terror (6-10, 4-5 CC), reaching 100 points for her career.
Lindsey Adams paced the Blue Jays (7-9, 3-6 CC) with a pair of goals.
Tied at 2-all, Yore drove through the defense before finishing to cap her hat trick in the 65th minute.
Nearly 90 seconds later, she made it a four-goal day for the second time this season at the 64:33 mark.
Adams made it a one-goal game once again in the 69th minute, finishing a Victoria Piscopo pass across the front of the goal.
The defense held, however, over the last 1:07 to preserve the Green Terror's first win over the Blue Jays since 2005 and remain mathematically alive for the playoffs.
Yore opened the scoring, dribbling past defenders and dodging the goalie to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead with 5:30 to play in the first half.
Yore blasted a shot in the 43rd minute to make it a 2-0 lead.
Adams put back a rebound in the 52nd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Morgan Pothast deflected in a Katie McErlean shot in the 60th minute to even the game.
McDaniel finished with a slim 13-12 edge in shots while Johns Hopkins had a 14-8 advantage in penalty corners.
McDaniel concludes the season at Washington (Md.) on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
